As I walked up the not-ready-for-prime-time-staircase in Burlington House, I was already sure that W.W.Chan was the find of a lifetime: Only a confident man would have a showroom in such a building. I met with Danny Chen, the women's tailor (his part of the business is call Irene Fashion). Within five minutes of discussing my needs – a navy suit that would last 20 years-- I began to relax. Chen isn't a tailor; he's a designer. He sketched what I wanted, and measured me. Such a rite of passage should be more complicated, I thought, but during it all I blithely sipped a Coke.
